What is the Messages App on my iPhone?

The Messages App is an application on your iPhone that allows you to send and receive messages using different technologies.

• iMessage – An Apple specific technology that allows you to send and receive texts, photos, videos, and audio messages with Apple device users.
• MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) – A new technology supported by all wireless carriers that allows you to send and receive texts, photos, videos, and audio messages with all cellphone users.
• SMS (Short Message Service) – An old technology supported by all wireless carriers that allows you to send and receive only text messages limited to 160 characters.

The Messages app comes with the iPhone system, you don’t need download or install it. It should appear on your home screen of your iPhone.
